No need for expensive and time-consuming boat ownership: get the same “sleeping on a yacht” experience for a fraction of the cost!

Background:

Boat aficionados occasionally claim that sleeping on a boat is particularly relaxing due to the way the boat (and bed) is gently rocked by the waves.

Fig. 1: This boat is gently rocked by the ocean waves. If only we could replicate this feature on land!

The Issue:

Unfortunately, buying and maintaining a boat is expensive and might be completely infeasible for people who don’t live near a large body of water!

Proposal:

The following eco-friendly “boat bed” (Fig. 2) has all the benefits of sleeping on a yacht at a fraction of the price.

Fig. 2: A: The bed hangs from an extremely long pendulum (longer pendulum = longer/slower swing time). B. The bed swings back and forth, just like a boat! C: The sound of soothing waves could (optionally) be played over speakers.

This particular implementation requires an extremely high ceiling, but the benefit is that it is unpowered as a result. You could of course fit this same apparatus in a much smaller space if you were willing to increase the mechanical complexity and/or power it electrically.

Conclusion:

This is basically the same as an automatically-rocking cradle for a baby, but with a more premium feel! Billionaires: sell your megayachts and switch to this more environmentally-conscious system!

PROS: Will significantly reduce carbon footprint by enabling large yacht lovers to get full nighttime sailing satisfaction at a fraction of the cost.

CONS: May make regular beds completely unacceptable even at the highest-end hotels, thus discouraging travel of all sorts. May cause seasickness.
